The stillness of the dark.

The comfort of light.

I love when they come together.

  • Pink Ronnie - June 6, 2012 - 5:25 am

That first photo is both striking and dramatic.
Shadow and light – perfectly captured by you, as always.

I love the last one w/the light gleaming off the dark wood. All are good shots – you have perfect light. Well..I guess we all kinda do if we make ourselves see it at the right time, huh? :-)ReplyCancel

The first photograph is stunning – but I also like the last a lot. Great images and great work with light. Btw, I saw your comment abot Fuji 400H and agree – it’s great at box speed but overexposed a little it is super.ReplyCancel

We carved some time for ourselves.  A brunch date.  Just what we needed to catch up.

No husbands, no kids – just us.

And after food and drinks and laughs, our tummies and our smiles were filled to the brim.

I’ll never take that for granted.

  • Diane - June 4, 2012 - 10:40 pm

Good for you. We all need a brunch date with friends. And beautiful photos.ReplyCancel

Being the loner that I am, I always get rather nostalgic @ thoughts of brunch or anything ‘with the girls.’ But these pix are so lovely, and the food – I’m starving now. Lol. Great shots.ReplyCancel

The magnolia trees are in bloom.

I couldn’t help but grab a couple to bring inside.

Their sweet scent + afternoon light = pure joy.

i honestly did a sharp intake of breath when i saw the light in the second one. holy. shiza. that light is heaven. but i also love that you paired it with what looks like dusky/rainy day light….which is a wonderful sort of moody light in its own right.ReplyCancel

I have finally run out of my beloved Polaroid 600 film.  And I’m not having much luck with the impossible project film. . . .

  • antonella - May 30, 2012 - 4:25 am

Those light and shadows on the curtain are fantastic!
I used the same camera and the same film last year. I was quite disappointed with the results as well but I’m going to give it another try… soon, very soon!ReplyCancel

me too, not much luck with IP film. yet.
i do however, have 2 packs of polaroid 600 that i’m hoarding. better use it sooner rather than later.ReplyCancel

i’ve been fighting with myself to find and purchase a polaroid. i want one specific model, but yet the whole polaroid mood makes me dream about having any model in my hands! i also think that it needs practice and learning and time… but i know that it’ll be a bit frustrating perhaps!ReplyCancel

As you probably imagine, there is a story that goes along with each of these images.

But what I love about film is the ability to for each of these images to stand on their own.  To tell a story of their own.  About the time and place, what was going on, and what I was feeling when I clicked the shutter.  I strive to capture that essence every time I pick up my camera.

And in case you are wondering – that’s my grandfather in the framed picture in the last photo.  I’m finally setting up my office/studio space and getting to surround myself with the things that I love (a tour coming soon).

  • Dottie - May 28, 2012 - 11:21 pm

Yes, that is a good and succinct description of what makes film so special. Mindful picture-taking combined with the inherent beauty of film. You say you strive to capture the essence every time you pick up the camera – you certainly succeed.

I look forward to seeing the tour!ReplyCancel

A few images from today….

I’m learning that the best way to decorate is simply with plants.

The last day of the school year is tomorrow.  On Friday, I will have a 1st grader.  The days are long, but the years are short.

I just found this inspiring set on flickr.  This one is my favorite.

The “official” start of summer is this weekend, and I can’t wait.

  • Lucent Imagery - May 24, 2012 - 12:43 am

I agree, decorating with plants has become a preferred way for me too. We’re heading towards winter here! Enjoy!ReplyCancel

I’ve been attracted to green colors lately, so I love seeing the green in your photos here. The depth of field of medium format plus the softness of instant film is such a gorgeous combo, especially with your magical light.

Your beautiful Fuji pack film work has inspired me to pull my polaroid back out for the first time in almost a year AND to finally snap up a Land Camera 250 on ebay. I’ve been so super annoyed by Impossible film that I must have been taking it out on all instant photography. :)ReplyCancel

My days have been so full.  Not nearly enough time.

End of the school year parties, dinners with friends, impromptu gatherings, finally being able to put the finishing touches on my office, trying to work on my portfolio, the list goes on…

And changes are most definitely coming.  It will be good for us.

But it’s nice to come home, sit down, and share a meal.

It feels good to be loved.

This year, we planted tomatoes, bell peppers, cayenne peppers, strawberries, parsley, and green onions.

We also luckily inherited an apple tree with our home (top two photos) – and I can see the first few apple buds already.

Hopefully, more pictures of our harvest will follow!
