As you can see, I’m having lots my iphone these days!  It’s always with me for instant captures, and now the instagram app makes it even easier  to share photos.  Did I mention it’s free?  I’ve heard that instagram is the new ‘flickr’, which may be true since I’m not on flickr as often as I used to be.

Are you on instagram?  You can follow me on instagram at gkphotography – or view my pictures here.  Please find me, I’m not quite sure how to find you!

And wow, is it June already?  Is it just me, or did half the year just slip past without me noticing?

I hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend.  I’m still trying to recover on this end – we spent most of our holiday weekend enjoying the weather.  And you know the best thing about a 3 day weekend is a shorter week ahead?

I am enjoying the fresh produce available this time of year.  It seems that our meals are much more colorful in the spring and summertime, and I love that.

Thanks so much for kind and supportive words on my last post!

Film. Kodak Portra 400.

I took these captures a while ago, and these peonies have opened up even more.  Their sweet scent has graced my home for the past couple of days and there’s nothing quite like their beauty.   They remind of myself – very closed and hard at the beginning, but when I open up – my heart and soul just seem to pour out.

***********

There are a few things that are out of my control right now, but weigh very heavily on my heart.  Through it all, I am reminding myself what is important and to enjoy the simple, everyday joys of my life.

I wish you a wonderful Memorial Day weekend~

Film. Kodak Portra 400

We enjoyed having family in town recently – taking them to our favorite breakfast and lunch spots.  Good food and good times.  I loved how in the midst of all of our food, the sippy cup stood out to me the most!

Also, on a slightly technical note, this was my first time using the new Kodak Portra, and I love the grain.  I definitely see the difference between the Portra 400 nc (more “creaminess”) – but the new Portra definitely has a style and feel of its own.  I think that it will grow on me.

More soon.

  • Elisabelle - May 24, 2011 - 5:17 am

    a wonderful seriesReplyCancel

  • Marie - May 24, 2011 - 2:40 pm

I tried the new portra a few weeks ago too and know exactly what you mean by the comparative creaminess of the nc. I feel like the new stuff is a little harder? Harder edges, if that makes sense? Or maybe how I’m shooting it makes it seem more contrasty? Anyway, those crepes look divine. I’ve been reading your blog for a while and I love it. You have such a great eye!ReplyCancel

  • Jacqueline - May 25, 2011 - 12:19 am

I have been dying to try out the new portra. It looks lovely here — and is supposed to be so versatile in its speed.ReplyCancel

I think this is the best way to start the weekend – fresh peonies and chocolate walnut cookies!

Expecting warmer weather here this weekend, so I’m thinking lots of outdoor time.  Have a wonderful weekend, friends ~

Film. Kodak Ektar 100

A recent capture of all the ingredients for my favorite breakfast – steel cut oatmeal.  Strawberries, sliced almonts, blueberries, raisins, and a pinch of sugar.

I’ve been spending more and more time in the kitchen, and loving every minute of it!

  • Nori - May 19, 2011 - 10:58 am

Inspirational for two reasons: Im trying to eat healthier, and this looks great; and two, I haven’t played with my film camera in a few weeks, and I just love this shot :)ReplyCancel

In the middle of a recent spring photo walk with my daughters, I finished a roll of Kodak Ektar film.  The only other roll of film at the bottom of my bag was Ilford black and white, so I decided to take some of the same shots for comparison.  As I mentioned previously, this is my first roll of black and white film, and I was pleasantly surprised by the results!  I also love the pop in color from the Kodak Ektar film – I think the colors are gorgeous.

I don’t have a comparison photo in black and white, but I have share this last shot because it is just so darn pretty!

Film. Color – Kodak Ektar 100. Black and white – Ilford Delta 400.

wow, the last shot just killed me! so beautiful!
for flower / garden shots, I think i personally prefer colour over b/w – the colous are simply to amazing to hide :)
    Great work!! as always :)ReplyCancel

  • Kristina - May 18, 2011 - 4:10 pm

very interesting to see compared the pictures. i love the colorfuls more. i tend generally to prefer color to bw, except for some (well, quite many) portraits. i love the magnolias shots, then both colorful and bw are so so pretty. and the last one just takes my breath away, wonderful blossoms and gorgeous elegan white building in the background.ReplyCancel

Film. Ilford Delta 400

It’s amazing how attached I am to this little space.  I’ve been away for a week, and it seems like eternity because I am so used to blogging in my daily routine.  We are preparing for a family move, and as stressful as that may be,  I know that I can always return here for my love of photography.

I’m excited to share photos from my first roll of black and white film.  I find that I compose entirely differently when I know a roll of black and white film is loaded in my camera.  Just knowing that the absence of color can make a striking image!  I especially love the first image – from the beginning of the roll, overexposed, but I love the effect.  It’s as though I took a pencil and erased the entire left hand side.

I have a few more to share with you this week ~

  • suzie - May 16, 2011 - 11:58 am

these are lovely! I’m going through a massive b&w love phase right now…..I agree about the absence of colour. You have to think differently when you look through the viewfinder, try to remove distractions and look for the light and shadows much harder. A wonderful discipline!
Personally, I have trouble with developing Ilford films :( I have just discovered Agfa APX and I love it.
    Love those little feet!ReplyCancel
