Last week, we made a quick visit to Louisiana to enjoy some of the warm weather and beautiful, spring colors.  It did not disappoint!  I can’t wait to enjoy some of the same in Pennsylvania.

My favorite of this series is my father holding my baby girl ~

I’m happy (and honored) to share with you that “express yourself” is featured in 101 Woonideeën‘s April 2011 issue!  I received my copy in the mail from the editors over the weekend, and poured through the pages over breakfast (steel cut oats, sliced almonds, and bananas).  And even though I hardly understood a word since it is written completely in Dutch, it is beautiful!  There is nothing quite like seeing your work in print.  A small interview was also published on their blog (you can translate via a link on the upper right hand corner).  Special thanks to Monique and Willy of 101 Woonideeën!  It was a pleasure to work with both of you.

A few things ~

+ Sign up for the Spring Photo Swap wrapped up on Friday – thanks to all who are participating!  If you signed up, you should have received an e-mail from Gayle, Lucent Imagery, or myself with your partner information.  If you haven’t, please contact me.

  • Sharon - April 2, 2011 - 10:12 pm

Just look at all those beautiful tulips, just waiting to open up and make someone’s week. Just tonight I bought myself a bouquet of them in Orange. There’s nothing like a little color to boost the winter weary spirits.

undefinedundefinedundefinedIn the kitchen with my mom, and we found ourselves baking walnut brownies.  I have so much to learn, but she is such a wonderful teacher!

Really simple recipe (adapted from here based on what we had):

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 2 egg whites
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

And here is what to do:

  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a baking pan, in our case, a cast iron skillet!
  • Melt the butter over low heat. Pour into large mixing bowl and stir in cocoa powder, sugar, flour, and vanilla. Mix in egg whites and half of the walnuts.
  • Spread evenly into the baking pan (or cast iron skillet).
  • Top the brownies with the 2nd half of walnuts.
  • Bake for 30 minutes.
  • Let cool in pan for 30-45 minutes before cutting.

And of course, adjust as you see fit – based on what you have.

Warning: These are so good, we have made them twice in the last three days!

Kodak Portra 400 NC

Enjoyed brunch, complete with mimosas and crab and corn bisque recently.

I promise there’s nothing quite like going to a fancy restaurant and getting to draw directly on the table.  It definitely brings out the artist in everyone!

P.S. There’s still time to sign up for the Spring Photo Swap!

  • Txell - March 30, 2011 - 7:11 am

So cool, to entertain the children and not so younger people!ReplyCancel

I found you through the spring swap which was recommended to me by O. Joy :) I’m so inspired! And thank you for stopping by my little place in cyber space!

Was this another ladies only brunch? I haven’t come across a restaurant for a while with the paper cloth and crayons. I do have fond memories of going to a couple of fancy restaurants with this set up as a teenager. Great fun! I’d imagine it would be a good first date ice breaker too.ReplyCancel

  • Kristin - March 31, 2011 - 2:25 am

I love restaurants where you can paint on the “tablecloth”. Especially when one has kids here, that’s a good experience.ReplyCancel

  • Kristina - March 31, 2011 - 3:26 am

looks so good. i like also crayons for kids, very nice to have something to keep them occupied. uh, i do not think i’ve been to a pretty restaurant for some time, and now i am thinking to take my camera (and be brave to take some pics) next time.
beautiful tones and feelings in your photos.ReplyCancel

Spring is here, my friends ~

The Winter Photo Swap was enjoyed by many, and I have received a number of requests to host a Spring Photo Swap.  With the beautiful colors of this season, I know that this swap will truly be beautiful!  Would you like to give and receive a beautiful image of Spring?

The process remains the same; however, the theme is spring.  You can interpret in any way you like.  Please remember, you don’t have to be a professional photographer.  You simply have to love photography.

Even if Spring hasn’t quite arrived where you are, your image can be one that you’ve already taken, or a photo you will take inspired by the theme – your choice.  You will be paired with a swap partner, and you will exchange  a 4×6 image of spring.  You are welcome to join, wherever in the world you live!

Sound like fun? Would you like to participate?

Once again, here is how it will work:

  1. Sign up for the Spring Photo Swap using this form.  The deadline is Friday, April 1.  Don’t forget to denote if you are willing to ship internationally, as shipping costs may be a bit more than domestic shipping.
  2. Spread the word – the more participants we have, the better!
  3. On or shortly after April 1, you will receive an e-mail with your swap partner.  *Please note that your mailing address will only be shared with your swap partner.
  4. Interpret the theme “spring” as you wish – your spring garden, your spring table, the many blooms of the season! Please only share an image that you would like to receive.  Have your image printed in 4×6 size.  Securely package and postmark your photo by Friday, April 15.
  5. By the end of April, you should have received your photo from your swap partner from any part of the world!
  6. If you’d like to share, I will create a page where you will be able to upload your image from your partner.

Sign up and let me know if you have any questions.

I’d like to thank Gayle and Lucent who have agreed to help out with this swap!

Happy Spring ♥

Update: Thanks to all who have signed up!  Registration is now closed.

Lorena is one of my favorite film photographers.  A couple of weeks ago, I was so excited to receive her new book, the art of imperfection, including film images of her day to day life.  It is truly gorgeous!

My favorite images are above – I feel as though I am right there with her in that space.

You can preview the book here.
