I enjoyed tea this weekend with a dear friend and our girls.  And although it rained outside, we were nice and cozy inside, enjoying our tea.

A little preview for you ~ I took film images as well, which I hope to share with you later this week!

On the first day of winter, I hosted a winter photo swap.  I thought it would be an excellent way to get through these cold months, by finding beauty in winter and exchanging a photo with someone else around the world.

I asked the participants to send me captures of the photos they received.  The results were beautiful!  Here are some of the winter images that were exchanged:

Gorgeous right? Thanks to all who participated!

  • GayleV - March 5, 2011 - 5:08 pm

These are gorgeous. Thanks for making this possible!! It was so fun to exchange files! Any chance you are considering a Spring Swap?! I sure love visiting here and seeing all your lovely images. Thanks for sharing!ReplyCancel

[…] summer I participated in a photo swap for the first time. It was organised by the lovely blogger of The Sweet Light. I have adored her photography for a long time now and I am pleased as punch to be getting to know […]ReplyCancel

More captures from this day, all taken at my mother’s home – hence, the paint brushes!  The grain is courtesy of ISO 800 film, which should have been ISO 400 based on my lighting, but I like the results nonetheless.

I’m learning how to create different effects in my work.  Blue tones, clear vivid colors, grain – it’s amazing the different moods in film photography that I can create simply by my choice of film.

Today I’m picking up some I dropped off film at the lab and I have no clue what’s on it.  I love that.

I have a few links that I enjoyed this week that I would like to share with you ~

+ 9 things Irene’s son’s have taught her on their 9th birthday

+ Elisabelle’s beautiful portraits.

+ This photo from Dottie.

+ Our new post on One Inspiration, Two Perspectives

+ 5 questions for Chrystine

Thanks so much for your kind comments on the “what’s in my bag” post!  As you can see, I can’t take may shots without one (or both) girls nearby.

Happy weekend to you!

In all honesty, it’s “what’s in your diaper bag” since that’s what I am carrying these days!  I thought it would be fitting to do one of these posts since I enjoyed looking at what people tote around (i.e. Alice, Hannah, Brian, Elisabelle and countless others).  As an added bonus, I found out yesterday that I won an *emera bag by entering a giveaway on Kim’s blog.  So I will soon transfer all of these goods to my first official camera bag!

+ I carry everything in a Skip-Hop Duo diaper bag.  I like it, but the flap gets in my way most of the time.  It holds everything though, with a little spare room.

+ My Pentax film camera and spare film.  I should mention that I either carry this camera or my DSLR since they are both pretty hefty.  These days, it’s mostly the Pentax.

+ The only Canon I own – a SD1300 IS point and shoot, a gift from my mom.  I use this for quick captures of my girls during the day.

+ Baby  goods – change of clothes, diapers, wipes, toys.

+ My wallet, iphone, and chap stick.

And there you have it ~

I’d love to see what you carry!

  • natalyn - March 2, 2011 - 9:28 am

Wow! We are so similar. I carried a Skip Hop bag too with my middle son. I love those bags. And he had the same little baby keychain! Just a different color. And that little tube of baby Aquaphor was also a mainstay in my bag. Annnd the Emera bag was the first camera bag that I put on my wish list after I started researching bags! (I carry an Epiphanie bag now.)

I also did a small series of what’s-in-my-bag photos, with one photo of my bag and the others were photos of some of my students’ bags. It’s always so interesting to see someone’s personality through the things that they carry with them on a daily basis.

Now all I need is a film camera (I can’t wait!) and we will practically be twins! hahahaReplyCancel

  • natalyn - March 2, 2011 - 9:34 am

Oh! And here is the post with my students’ bags.

I wish my bag was that empty, I end up carrying far too much and my poor shoulders suffer a lot. Gorgeous bubby feet!ReplyCancel

  • tracey k in ohio - March 4, 2011 - 10:44 am

I tell ya – even though I love any & everything you photograph, i love NOTHING more than seeing those little feet! (LOL!) Babies’ feet are one of my most favorite things on earth so I thank you for always including them :-)

Would love to show you what I have in my bag; problem is – which bag? (LOL!) My Sig.Other says I look like a bag lady when I leave for work. I have my “regular” purse (usual junk + point-n-shoot camera, cell & iPod), THEN I have my ‘big bag’ w/DSLR camera, cards (to send out to sick/shut-ins/pen pals, AND two bags of rubber stamps & ink pads (laughing!) Yes – it’s a mess, but I never know what I will need during the day :-)ReplyCancel

In keeping with my theme of simplicity for this year, these are a few captures from my weekend.  Very relaxed as you can see!   I even enjoyed a little breakfast in bed.   It’s safe to say that I have given up on trying to keep socks on my baby girl’s feet.  Apparently, they are too tempting and must be taken off at all costs!

And the white outside the window?  Yes, that would be snow, my friends.   To say that I am ready for spring is an understatement.  I’m ready to venture out with my camera and capture all of the springtime goodness.

I hope you had a wonderful weekend as well~

  • Lucent Imagery - February 28, 2011 - 4:00 pm

I love simplicity in life and in photos. These are stunning. I had a craving for croissants on the weekend, must rectify that next weekend! I do love that snow gives of a white glow to photos, but I haven’t lived in snow so that is easy for me to say!ReplyCancel

  • GayleV - February 28, 2011 - 5:08 pm

I am so excited for spring and very tired of the cold. If only snow (which I do think is beautiful) could co-exist with some warmth. The problem–where I live we have between 30 and 60 days before spring or warmth will happen. Hoping to see nature’s signs of life soon, though.ReplyCancel

So happy to share with you a little project I’ve been working on! Blue is the very first postcard set available in my little print shop.

It includes a set of postcards featuring 4 of my favorite blue images you see above:

+ comfort

+ on my way

+ rest

+ sip

Each postcard measures 4.5″ x 5.7″ and they are printed on fine art linen paper – you’ll *love* the texture of each card.

Mail them off, or keep them for yourself – your choice! You can find them in my little shop.

Have a wonderful weekend.

In an attempt to escape the cold, I visited my local botanical gardens armed with my new Kodak Portra 400 NC film.  I wish someone had taken a photo of me manually focusing while holding a baby and running after a 4 year old!

It really is true about the quality of film (and also the fact that I am more comfortable with my light meter) – these film shots captured my heart.  More soon….
