And it’s not an easy thing to capture.

Thank you for your kind and inspiring words on my blog Azzari. Unfortunately I think a bit of the winter blues are affecting me. Usually I do okay but this year has been a bit more difficult than others. Hopefully I’ll pull myself out of it soon. And though I never say it, I think about ditching my blog ALL the time and starting fresh.

      Hi Sharon!

I know one thing for sure – though the winter blues are affecting you this year, you will get through this. Promise. And if it takes ditching your blog and starting fresh, so be it! This is exactly what I have done, and I love it. At the end of the day, follow your heart – and you can’t go wrong.ReplyCancel

Holidays in Louisiana revolve around some sort of food and drink and are always celebrated in the kitchen.  Conversations, laughter, singing – all over bread (and sometimes a little wine!).  I captured a few bits and pieces for you here.  I have a few more that I will share.  I hope that you had a wonderful and restful Christmas as well – thanks for all of your sweet comments and merry wishes!

Today actually begins one of my favorite weeks of the year.  The hustle and bustle of Christmas is finally over, but everyone is still in holiday mode.  The anticipation of the new year is near, and reflection begins.  I’m looking forward to 2011.

A few images I enjoyed over the weekend –

And finally, many thanks to all who have signed up for the Winter Photo Swap!

Welcome to the winter solstice, my friends!  For us in the Northern Hemisphere, today marks the beginning of winter. One of my goals when I began this blog is to create a sense of community, I want this space to be an encouraging space, one that you can come to for inspiration and joy.  I’d like to begin with a winter photo swap – an exchange beautiful images of winter!  This is one of the projects keeping me up at night!  And really – what better way to make the winter just a *bit* more bearable than to receive a little token of love?

The theme is winter – photos inspired by the season.  You can interpret in any way you like.  Please remember, you don’t have to be a professional photographer.  You simply have to love photography.  It can be a photo you’ve already taken, or a photo you will take inspired by the theme – your choice.  I’ll pair you with a partner, and you will get to swap a 4×6 image of winter.  You are welcome to join, wherever in the world you live!

*I only ask that you send a photo you would love to receive.*

Sound like fun? Would you like to participate?

Here’s how it will work.

  1. Please use this form to sign up for the winter photo swap.  The deadline is Saturday, January 1.  Don’t forget to denote if you are willing to ship internationally, as shipping costs may be a bit more than domestic shipping.
  2. Spread the word – the more participants we have, the better!  Feel free to grab a button (below) and post your site.
  3. On or shortly after January 1, I will send you an e-mail with your swap partner.  *Please note that your mailing address will only be shared with your swap partner.
  4. Interpret the theme “winter” as you wish – go out and photograph your surroundings, your favorite winter memory, your winter home, it’s your choice! Please only share an image that you would like to receive.  Have your image printed in 4×6 size.  Securely package and postmark your photo by Friday, January 21.
  5. By the end of the first week in February, you should have received your photo from your swap partner from any part of the world!
  6. When you receive your photo from your swap partner, don’t forget to take a picture of it to share.  I’ll create a special page to upload your images!

Sign up and let me know if you have any questions!

Happy Winter ♥

Update: Sign up for the Winter Photo Swap is now closed.  Thank you to all who are participating!  Please check back in February for a round-up post.

I love pretty place settings.  Sometimes, more than the meal itself!  Tablecloths, napkins, and pretty plates – just because – no special occasion needed.

My daughter likes to call it “dressing up” the table!

One thing that is guaranteed when I get new gear is that I will spend lots of time experimenting, my creativity taking over.  Just thinking about the possibilities gets me excited!  The lensbaby is no exception – this is a fun lens, one that I am enjoying and still learning.  One thing that I’ve noticed with this lens is that it’s all about the sweet spot.

And because I love to collect little treasuries from nature and bring them in…….

All images in this post taken with my lensbaby.

  • Alice - December 15, 2010 - 11:12 am

this takes me back to childhood~
    we always had grapefruit…

i remember piling on the sugar~
    taking out each little triangle
    one by one.

    i don’t think i’ve had one since.
maybe it’s time to refresh my senses.
