Masthead header

It was cold this weekend.  We spent it quietly at home.

Eggs for Saturday morning breakfast.

A bit of reading with the girls.

A quick run to Anthropologie for a last minute Christmas gift.

Kept little toes warm with little piggy footies.

Napped under Gabrielle’s handmade dreamcatcher.

Enjoyed a new-to-me blog, My Cooking Diary.

Yes, a very good weekend indeed!

I hope that yours was equally enjoyable ♥

I’ve been keeping myself busy working on a couple of project ideas that I’m excited to share with you (soon!).  These ideas have been keeping me up at night, my mind racing with all the possibilities.  Working on all of this in the comfort of my bed.  With the roads and stores packed this time of year,  is there any better place to be?

Have I mentioned how freeing this space is for me already?  How I love sharing bits and pieces of my life with you?  This is definitely becoming a comfortable home.  I hope you feel the same way.

A couple of things I’d like to share with you ~

Are you interested in receiving updates and discount codes for my print shop?  By all means, please sign up for my mailing list.  A special holiday discount code will be sent out soon!

I absolutely love the vintage cameras in Juniper Home.

Loving Alice’s film images of her birthday lunch at Per Se.

Have a wonderful day ♥

This post made me smile, Azzari. It takes a while to get comfortable and find your stride with blogging, no? I guess it’s that way with everything. I’m not sure I’ve really found my stride yet, but I’m working on it.

Can’t wait to learn more about these ideas that have been keeping you up at night, thinking about them and most likely feeding your dreams.

Your newest little one is beautiful.

Getting ready in the morning, and I realized how much beauty is in the mess!

I simply couldn’t bring myself to use the soap dish for it’s main purpose because my jewelry seems so much more at home there.

Hair pulled back and adorned with a flower, and I’m ready to start my day.

I like to call this quiet space of my home my “creative corner”.  This window has the most beautiful light.  It seems that every other space is filled with toys, bouncy chairs, and all things pink!  But this corner is my own.  I spend quite a lot of time here –  thinking, meditating, and comforting my baby girl in the wee hours of the morning.

I love to begin my mornings curled up here, these books in my lap and my knees tucked beneath me, staring out of this window.  I’ve watched the seasons change from summer to autumn.  These past couple of mornings I have awakened to snow, a sure sign that winter is well on her way.

I write all of photo ideas and creative thoughts in these journals.  The larger one I use mostly for sketching or doodling, the smaller one I carry with me during the day, stashed in my bag just in case anything should inspire me while I am out.  They contain so many of my hopes and dreams, things that I wish to do, but simply don’t have the time to right now.  But I know that I will, someday.

Do you have a creative space in your home?  Somewhere that is just for you?

*********

I want to sincerely thank each and every one of you for all of your heartfelt words in the comments from my first post.  It is good to see so many familiar faces that have followed me here, and meet so many new readers – thank you!

If you were joining me for tea, I’d have a great deal to share with you.  I’d offer you one of my favorite mugs, because if you are here, you are definitely a close friend.  I’d want to be as open and honest as possible, because my heart is open to share.  Here goes….

Photography is my love, my passion, my craft.  It is how I express myself creatively.  I started my old blog almost two years ago, and sharing my photography was simply my  goal.  I grew as a photographer a great deal in that space – I found my style of photography, and connected with so many readers.

With the birth of my second daughter and a family move to Pennsylvania , my life has definitely changed, as I knew it would.  My photography has changed as well.  At my core, I want to get back to photographing my everyday, my simple moments, my life.  I don’t want to take myself so seriously!  Over there, I felt that every post had to be polished, perfect.  That’s a lot of pressure!

And then, my worst fear became reality.   Blogging had become a chore because of my self imposed perfectionism!  One that I began to dread, and that’s not what I wanted.  My photography blog was not supposed to be a place that I avoided, but a place that I would want to grow and share my vulnerabilities as well as my strengths, essentially – my journey of photography.  That’s when it hit me, and I realized that it was time to let it go.  To move on and start fresh, start new.  To be true to me and my love of photography.

And there you have it – The Sweet Light, named for my constant search of sweet, natural light with my camera – was born.  My new phase, my new diggs, my space not to take myself so seriously, but to grow and stretch my wings as a photographer.

Thanks so much for following me to this new space (and for sharing tea with a listening ear).  You’ll  find me here from now on.  I hope that you make yourself at home, as I have.  I plan to make this space more collaborative, more inviting, and a wonderful place to share.

I’m excited – I love the feeling of having a fresh, blank canvas.  A new space and look, and a new direction are ahead – thanks for joining me!

    Gabrielle,

You have put into words exactly how I’ve been feeling, only I didn’t want to admit it to myself. Some days my blog feels like such a burden but at this point how do I go backwards in time? I actually did start a new blog (which you can find under my profile) called The Sweetest of Days. It was going to be my place to let go and only post a picture or two, along with my romantic side. Then I felt the pull to come back to A New England Life because people expect me there. Who knows what the future holds.

I wish you all the best and I truly hope you feel invigorated with a new beginning.
